Bryant Banged Up And Slowing Down in Final Season

The Lakers have been cautious in how they’ve used Bryant this season. He missed time early in January with a sore right shoulder, and has sat out due to rest or injury at various points in the season.

Given how fragile Bryant has been the previous two seasons, as well as the years of wear and tear on his body over 20 NBA seasons, he’s going to need more rest than the average player.

Times are tough in Los Angeles right now. Bryant is struggling in his final season, shooting a career-worst 35 percent from the floor, and the Lakers own the Western Conference’s worst record.

The Lakers will likely use a rotation of Metta World Peace, Nick Young and Anthony Brown at small forward until Bryant is able to return.

There is a benefit to having Bryant out because it forces the Lakers to utilize young players like D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle in more ball-control roles. They are the future of this franchise, even though Bryant still runs things.
